The Challenge

The world faces a pressing environmental crisis as vast quantities of organic waste remain under-utilised, fuelling pollution and climate change.

Globally, trillions of tonnes of green waste are generated annually, yet only a small fraction is recycled, highlighting the urgent need for innovative waste management solutions. Compounding this, water hyacinth infestations are spreading rapidly, covering huge areas of waterways worldwide, while expanding seaweed patches impose billions in cleanup costs on coastal communities each year.

Closer to home, even Western Australia grapples with this challenge. Annually, millions of tonnes of organic and agricultural waste are produced, with much of it left to decompose in fields and landfills. In Perth, around half of the organic waste collected ends up in landfills, where it releases methane, a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

This unchecked waste not only accelerates environmental harm but also squanders a valuable opportunity for sustainable resource recovery. Tackling this challenge is vital to reducing emissions, preserving ecosystems, and building a circular economy.

Biochar
The Seawise Solution

The Seawise system uses a novel combination of pyrolysis and bio-digestion. Our process provides new and exciting opportunities and the technologically advanced integration of the two approaches enhance the ability to do environmental good while increasing efficiency and profitability.

By transforming organics into biochar, we can create a range of sustainable products, including bio-methane, agricultural inputs including liquid and biochar-based fertilisers as well as construction materials — all while securely sequestering carbon for centuries and generating valuable certified carbon credits.

Seawise Renewables is seeking locations and partners to establish four state-of-the-art facilities in Western Australia. These facilities aim to tackle the challenges posed by the accumulation of organic and green waste.
